I can’t believe there is another year and a half to go before the election is over! Can anyone ever tire of zingers like this one from Hugh Hewitt?
“The rejection of John McCain by the base of the Republican Party was predicted and explained in A Mormon In The White House. Now the key question is whether Senator McCain will stay in the party and support its nominee, a question which hasn’t been asked of him (or Tom Tancredo)and which should be, again and again until it gets a straight answer.”
In addition to getting a shot off at John McCain (who is apparently not Republican enough for Hugh), Hewitt also gets another chance to flog his new book (which he does with Andrew Sullivan-like regularity).

Those readers of this humble blog might remember the name Terry MacKillop. MacKillop is the “Animal Control Officer” in Roscommon County, Michigan. If you’ve read this blog for a little while, you would have read this post about a site called Thor’s Warriors that is dealing with MacKillop and his lack of action when it comes to a group of starved dogs and someone by the name of Larry Baumgart.
Well, more and more the press is starting to notice what is going on. Not to the speed I’d like them to, but it’s better than nothing. One thing that has been constant in this press coverage is Terry MacKillop’s refusal to talk with the press about his actions, or lack thereof.

According to this article from CNN, scientists in Wales have determined that dolphins living off of the coast of Wales communicate in a different dialect than dolphins living off of the coast of Ireland.
(Apparently, the Welsh Dolphins spend a lot of time discussing the value of sheep, while the Irish Dolphins talk about how many ways they can drink Guinness, repeatedly say “Kiss me Blarney stone, the damn tuna nets got me again!” and debate how to the get the English out of Northern Ireland.)
That said, the best thing in the article was the dateline. Bangor, Wales. I stayed in the town while on tour with a rugby team many years ago. It’s the coolest little college town! Actually, all of Wales was amazing! I miss being there, it’s so green and lush and beautiful. If you ever get the chance to go, do it!

Penn State Women 27
Mighty Lobos 3 (and led 3-0 through a bit of the first half)
Good going to the University of New Mexico Lady Lobos for getting as far as they did. They’ll get ‘em next year!

This weekend the University of New Mexico women’s rugby team has a chance to win the school’s second ever national championship (the first being from the UNM ski team a few years back. Yes, the University of New Mexico has a ski team. Quit laughing.)
Being a former rugger and a graduate of UNM (even played on the men’s team one game before blowing out my other knee), I’m really pulling for the Lady Lobos. They have put together a very formidable program, primarily from athletes in New Mexico!
They’ve made it to the final four, and today they’ll be facing off against a very formidable team in Penn State. But they have been training hard (You can see them practicing in the AM when driving past UNM on the way to work), they have a good coaching staff and they have spent all season training side by side with the men’s team (which gives them an advantage, IMO, because they have actual teammates to scrimmage with – something many women’s teams don’t have)
We’ll find out more today! I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed!
